The 559 Overlay Is Coming—Here’s What It Means for You (and Your Real Estate Needs!)

Big changes are coming to the way we dial in the Central Valley! Starting March 26, 2025, a brand-new area code—357—will be introduced as an overlay to the existing 559 area code. What does this mean for you? In short: no one is losing their 559 number, but you’ll need to start dialing 1 + the area code + the number for all calls.
If that sounds like a hassle, don’t worry—I’ll walk you through it! And, of course, I’ll tie it back to what really matters: how this affects your real estate transactions in Fresno, Clovis, and beyond.
What’s an Area Code Overlay?
An overlay is when a new area code is added to the same geographic region as an existing one without replacing it. In this case, 357 is being introduced alongside 559 to accommodate the growing need for new phone numbers in the Central Valley.
What Stays the Same?
If you already have a 559 number (like me—559-696-3264), you get to keep it!
Your phone service and rates will not change.
You’ll still call local numbers—just with a few extra digits.
What Changes?
Starting February 26, 2025, you must dial all 10 digits (1 + area code + number) for local calls—no more just seven digits!
New phone numbers may be assigned the 357 area code instead of 559.
Why Is This Happening?
Simple: we’re running out of 559 phone numbers! With more people moving to Fresno and Clovis, plus the increasing need for new business lines and smart devices, the supply of available 559 numbers is getting low. Instead of retiring 559, the California Public Utilities Commission decided to overlay 357 into the region.
This ensures new residents and businesses can get fresh numbers without disrupting existing 559 users. So don’t worry—you won’t suddenly have to memorize new digits! But if you’re saving new contacts, don’t be surprised if they have a 357 number instead of 559.
How Does This Affect Real Estate in the Central Valley?
If you’re buying or selling a home, staying on top of communication is everything. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Update Your Contacts!
If you’ve saved my number as just 696-3264, go ahead and update it to 559-696-3264. Better yet, send me a quick text now so you have it locked in for all your real estate needs!
2. Double-Check Your Business Information
If you’re a business owner, make sure all your information contains 559. With All Elite Homes, we’ve already got this covered—every flyer, yard sign, and business card includes 1-559-696-3264 to make sure buyers can always reach me when listing your property!
3. Avoid Missed Calls & Delays
The last thing you want is to miss an important call from a lender, escrow officer, or—let’s be honest—your favorite real estate agent at All Elite Homes (that’s me!). Start dialing the full number now so it becomes second nature by the time the change takes effect.
The Bottom Line? Just Add a Few Extra Digits!
This isn’t a drastic change—just a small shift in how we dial. 559 is here to stay, and if you already have a 559 number, you won’t lose it. Just remember:
✅ Starting February 26, 2025, dial 1 + area code + number for all calls.
✅ New numbers may have the 357 area code.
✅ Save my number properly: 1-559-696-3264—go ahead, text me now!
And of course, if you have any real estate questions—whether it’s about buying, selling, or just getting expert advice—call or text me at 1-559-696-3264. All Elite Homes is here to make your real estate journey smooth and stress-free, no matter what area code you’re dialing from!
